Surface water temperatures in in the high 40’s and are a little bit above normal for this time of year due to the really warm fall and early winter we have had. A monster cold front is approaching the area, and this should really shake up the conditions. Calm warm blue bird sunny days with little wind are going to be replaced with cold, rain and snow and wind. Usually, great news for anglers at Pyramid Lake.
The fish are really spread out and are being caught all over. The afternoons seem to be the best time, but the wind and weather are still playing a part throughout the day. This could even be more relevant with colder weather coming.
Anglers are catching fish using a variety of techniques and bugs. Indicator fishing is one way to go with a Balanced Leech and a size 10 – 12 Maholo Nymph or Midge has been as good as anything. Try the Red Wine Midge, G.T Midge, Pyramid Lake Balanced Leech in Olive or Black.
Shooting head set-ups are also working well and maybe the best option. The standard bugs are always the best. Midnight Cowboys, Martini Olive’s for Wooly’s fished with White Ghost or Chartreuse and White Tadpoles are hard to beat.
Our guide schedule is filling up for late winter and spring so If you would like one of us to show you how we catch so many big fish, take a look at your schedule and give us a call or send us an email.
